Koyasan Heiwa-ji Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is actually a Shinto shrine located in Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture. However the information was not found on the actual shrine. Instead I found that the Hachinohe Shrine also referred to as Aya-no-Hiroba Shrine which is dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu and is considered one of Japan's oldest shrines. The shrine is famous for its historic beauty and the remains of an ancient shrine that date back to the Jomon period (10,000 - 300 BCE).
