Located in the Tanzawa Mountains of Gunma Prefecture, three-temple shrine (sannenzaka) Shimoji-ya is dedicated to the deity Hachiman, known as the god of war and patron of samurai. The shrine was originally built during the Heian period (794-1185 CE), but its current structure dates back to the Kamakura period (1185-1333 CE). Shimoji-ya is renowned for its stunning natural surroundings and unique architecture, which features a three-tiered pagoda and several wooden structures.
