Kochi

This small shrine honors the spirits of the Taira (Heike) clan warriors who perished during the Genpei War of the late 12th century, particularly those who may have fled to the remote mountains of Kochi after their defeat at the Battle of Dan-no-ura in 1185. The shrine serves as a memorial to these fallen samurai, where locals pay respects to their restless spirits and seek protection from any lingering resentment or supernatural influence. Visitors come to offer prayers for the peaceful repose of these ancient warriors' souls and to honor the tragic end of one of Japan's most powerful military clans.
