Located in the city of Hikone, Dayo-jinja Shrine is one of Japan's oldest shrines, with a history dating back to 710 CE. Dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu, it is also revered as a shrine for the local ruler Oshi no Tsuki-yamato-no-sukune, a powerful deity in Shiga Province.
