木留神社

Nagano

Wooden gate post shrine dedicated to the kami of forest life, agriculture and fertility. The wooden posts are adorned with carved figures of animals and humans in various poses, believed to ward off evil spirits. Visitors can purchase prayers written on paper called 'emakimono' which are then tied to the wooden posts as an offering.
