Located in the city of Hitachi, Ibaraki Prefecture, Katsura-gahara Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami Enmei Hōō. The shrine's name 'Katsura-gahara' literally means 'cotton tree plain.' According to legend, the shrine was built on a site where a samurai's spirit was seen riding a horse with a cotton tree as its saddle.
