Located in the city of Dazaifu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Borkaku-Tennį is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of literature and education, Boku-ryu. The shrine was built in 806 by Emperor Saga's regent, Fujiwara no Asukabe, as a memorial for his daughter who died giving birth to her first child. Visitors can see a beautiful garden and a large stone statue of the god Boku-ryu.
