Futsu-no-Mikoto Shrine, located in Futsu city of Shizuoka Prefecture, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami Futsu-no-Mikoto. The shrine is famous for its unique torii gate, which faces west instead of east, unlike most other Shinto shrines in Japan. This unusual orientation is said to be due to the fact that the shrine was originally built during the Edo period (1603-1868) as a temple dedicated to Futsu-no-Mikoto, and later converted into a Shinto shrine.
