秋葉神社本殿

Akiba Jushiha Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of rice, fertility, and prosperity in the city of Kariya, Niigata Prefecture. Located near the Akibagawa River, the shrine's main hall was rebuilt after World War II, but its traditional architecture remains intact. The shrine's grounds feature several smaller shrines and torii gates dedicated to various regional kami.

参拝のヒント

Visitors can purchase a prayer packet called 'emotama' at the shrine, which contains five folded paper tokens with the god's image on them. To receive a blessing, visitors must hang their prayers from the torii gate and take one token as a keepsake.

文化的背景

The shrine is famous for its autumnal festivals, where locals pray for good harvests and celebrate the changing of the leaves. The shrine is also home to a unique wooden lantern called 'tōrō' that dates back to the Heian period.
