Anciently, the people of Echigo region revered the great deity who watched over its mountains and rivers. The Ancient Kumamato tribe reveres this great god as well, believing that this mountain was a sacred place to connect with nature. Over time, the shrine has been rebuilt many times due to natural disasters like landslides, but still maintains a strong connection to the local culture and history.
