Located in the city of Kariya, Niigata Prefecture, Eighteen Step Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine dedicated to the goddess of mercy and protector, Benzaiten. The shrine's architecture is typical of Edo period Shinto shrines, with a large torii gate and a beautiful garden. According to local legend, the shrine was originally built on a site where a sacred spring was discovered.
