Day goddess Tsukiyomi Shrine, dedicated to the sun and the god of heaven, is located in Fukuoka, Japan. Founded during the Nara period (710-794 CE), it was originally known as 'Tsukihime no Miyabishi,' but later changed its name to Dayyamachi-no-miya in 1868. The shrine's architecture reflects a mix of Heian and Kamakura styles, with a notable example being the Hozu-ryokan-style main hall.

文化的背景

According to Shinto mythology, Tsukiyomi is the brother of Amaterasu and Izanagi. During his visit to the underworld, he retrieved a sword for Amaterasu from the sea god Susanoo. As a result, Tsukiyomi's name is associated with the sun and its power.

歴史

Tsukiyomi Shrine was restored after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923.
