Dedicated to the Shinto deity, Okuninushi Ōno-miya-hiko, or more commonly known as Tametmaro, a powerful kami from Japanese mythology associated with fertility and agriculture. The shrine is said to have been founded in the 7th century by Prince Ojin's sister, Princess Takamuku-no-ohina. Located at the foot of Mount Dewa-san, the shrine is deeply connected to the region's history and folklore.

Upon arrival, visitors can purify their hands at the temizuya fountain before entering the shrine grounds. Be sure to make a wish by throwing a mochi coin into the water.

The shrine is known for its unique architectural style, featuring a striking torii gate and an impressive wooden gate called 'yagura.' The surrounding area is also home to many historical temples and shrines, including the nearby Dewa Sanzan, a sacred site for the deity Okuninushi.

Founded in the 7th century during the Asuka period, it was rebuilt in 1614 following the Shimabara Rebellion.
