Located in the heart of Akita Prefecture, but built at a site in Yamagata, the Shuri no Mise (Shrine of the Sacred Storehouse) is one of Japan's most ancient shrines. Dating back to the Heian period, it enshrines the god Inari Ōkami and contains a large storehouse where rice was once stored. Today, visitors can still see the remains of the original temple that was built on this site. The shrine is also famous for its beautiful gardens and traditional architecture. As one of Japan's 80 'Ancient Shrines', it showcases Shinto traditions at their most ancient.

文化的背景
Inari Ōkami is often depicted with foxes, a nod to the myth that inari was often represented by the fox kami, which are known for their intelligence and quick thinking. This shrine also houses the Sacred Storehouse festival where offerings of rice are made in exchange for good fortune.
