Anciently located in the town of Ōtsu, Kōzu Town, Iwate Prefecture, Gokujō Hachiman Shrine has been active since at least Heian period (794-1185), originally dedicated to Hachiman Ōkami, the Shinto god of war. In 1601, during the Edo period (1603-1867), the shrine moved to its current location in what is now Kōzu Town. Since then, it has maintained a rich history and spiritual presence within the local community. The shrine's architecture showcases traditional Japanese temple design with a wooden torii gate and an impressive main hall. Visitors can explore the shrine grounds, which include several sacred areas including Hachiman Ōkami shrines and the grave of former daimyōs (feudal lords).
