Located in the heart of Sendai, mountainous region of Miyagi Prefecture, Yama-no-kami-sha Shrine honors the primary deity, Kamakuri-no-okami, a forest spirit associated with the protection and fertility of the mountains. This Shinto shrine, built during the Nara period (710-794 CE), is one of the oldest in the Sendai area, featuring traditional architectural elements such as a torii gate and a haiden, which houses the main deity's image. The shrine complex also includes a moss-covered torii and a five-story pagoda. Visitors can explore the serene forest surroundings and enjoy various festivals throughout the year, including the Yama-no-kami Matsuri.
