Located in the city of Mutsu, Aomori Prefecture's predecessor was a branch of the Tōhoku region's Matsushima deity worship center. The shrine is dedicated to the goddess of fortune, wealth and fertility, and the god of sea, winds, and storms. The shrine's unique architecture features a distinctive octagonal tower called 'Hachi-juban' or eight-story pagoda, which is believed to ward off evil spirits.
