三島神社

Saga

Located on the island of Nishinoshima in Saga Prefecture, San'etsu Island Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the sea god, Ryujin, and the deity of navigation, Suemitsu Ryujin. The shrine's current structure dates back to the Edo period, but it is believed to have originated during the Heian period.

To reach the shrine, take a ferry from the city of Saga, and then walk about 1 kilometer to the island's southern shore. Be sure to try some of the local seafood at one of the island's restaurants before or after your visit.

文化的背景

The shrine is famous for its Ryujin festival, which takes place every six years during a leap year. During this time, visitors can participate in traditional dances and games, as well as try their luck at fishing competitions to win prizes.

歴史

The shrine was rebuilt in 1839 after a fire destroyed the previous structure.
