文化的背景

As one of Japan's most ancient shrines, Eighteen Hands Shrine is steeped in mythology and tradition. During the annual Hachiman Matsuri festival, which takes place on November 15th, devotees perform rituals to honor the god of war and seek his wisdom. The shrine's torii gate is also adorned with vermilion paper lanterns during this time.

歴史

Founded in 757 AD by Emperor Shōmu, it was originally known as 'Kasuga Hachiman-jin', later renamed to its current name. During the Edo period, it was a major site for the construction of samurai armor and other military equipment.
