天満宮

Tennan-mya is a historic Shinto shrine located in the city of Nagahama, Shiga Prefecture. Dedicated to Tsukuyomi-no-kami, the god of the moon and time, the shrine is renowned for its traditional architecture and serene natural surroundings. Built during the Edo period (1603-1867), Tennan-mya's main hall features a striking gabled roof and sliding doors made from the famous Nagahama cedar wood.

文化的背景

Tennan-mya is closely associated with the legend of Tsukuyomi-no-kami's descent from heaven and his establishment of order in the world. The shrine is also famous for its annual Moon Viewing Festival (Tsukimi), which takes place on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month.

歴史

Built in 1635 by Hosokawa Tadatoshi, a powerful daimyo of the Kii domain, during the Edo period.
